Celebrating 30 Years of Menemsha

Menemsha is a small fishing village on Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts. The name comes from an Algonquin Native American term meaning calm waters and safe harbor. CEO and Founder John Daigle grew up sailing those waters, knowing that someday he would name his company after the beautiful town.

Years later, in April 1992, Menemsha was founded by Daigle and his close friend and former college classmate Tom Speroni. The two met at the University of Denver and have been lifelong friends since, allowing them to rely on each other through ups and downs.

“We always said the friendship is the most important part of developing this business,” Speroni said. “Through that friendship, we’ve been able to navigate through 30 years of good times and challenging times knowing that we always have a solid business partner. We’ve been able to meet challenges with a little more positivity.”

As Menemsha grew in success, our name has continually paralleled the business we practice. We provide calm waters and safety for our clients. They rely on Menemsha to solve their problems, no matter how challenging they might be.

“We’re called ‘Menemsha Solutions’ for a reason, because we supply solutions for our clients.” Daigle said. “That’s what’s been the most successful over 30 years – the ability to solve problems that are inherent in any business.”

In 30 years, Menemsha has completed 20K projects and we are on track to continue this success well in future generations. Menemsha is already planning for the next 30, bringing on key people to maintain our legacy.

Still, when it comes to growth, we make sure to reflect on the humility of our name and remember that our priority is always the client.

“We want to make sure that the client comes first. We don’t want to grow for the sake of growing – we want to grow because it’s the right thing to do.”

30 years is a long time, especially in the construction business, but Daigle and Speroni knew from the beginning they had what it takes to last. As we look forward to the next 30 years, we know Menemsha has the grit to outlast. We’ll stick to our values, always put clients first, and continue to look for creative solutions to any problems we face in the next 30 years and beyond.
